Pacific Lutheran (8-3, NWC 3-0, 1st): The Lutes from Parkland (Tacoma), Wash., are ranked 22nd in the latest AVCA/NCAA Division III national poll .... The Lutes were picked to finish 1st in the pre-season Northwest Conference coaches' poll, the Bruins 6th ... PLU is coming off a 3-1 win over #17 Puget Sound Wednesday night ... PLU has won the last 10 meetings, including two last year (3-0 in both Parkland and Newberg) ... The Bruins' last win in the series was 3-2 in Newberg on Oct. 27, 2001 ... The Lutes lead the NWC in kills (14.50) and aces (3.08), and are 2nd in hitting (.227), 3rd in opponents' hitting (.151), assists (12.95), 7th in blocks (1.49), 8th in digs (16.42) ... Beth Hanna leads the NWC in kills (4.74), and is 7th in hitting (.274) ... Stacie Matz is 5th in kills (3.87) ... Lewis & Clark (4-8, NWC 0-2, T 8th): The Lewis & Clark Pioneers from Portland, Ore., were picked to finish 8th in the pre-season Northwest Conference coaches' poll ... The teams split last year, L&C winning 3-2 in Portland and GFU winning 3-0 in Newberg ... The Pioneers lead the NWC in blocks (2.92), and are 5th in hitting (.169), digs (17.41), aces (2.14), 8th in kills (12.00), assists (10.77), opponents' hitting (.198) ... Katherine Fiedler leads the NWC in blocks (1.29) ... All-NWC Sara Kettler is 5th in hitting (.331), 8th in blocks (0.81) ... Jessamy Holland is 4th in digs (4.12) ... COACH STEVE GRANT

Steve Grant (Biola '69) is 523-334 (.610) in his 26th season as a college head coach, all at George Fox. He entered this season ranked 9th in victories among all-time active D-III coaches. He was Northwest Conference Coach of the Year in 1998, NAIA District 2 Coach of the Year in 1984 and 1990, and NCCAA National Coach of the Year in 1984 and 1987 when his teams won NCCAA national championships. * Anderson Honorable Mention for NWC Player of the Week

Senior middle blocker Elizabeth Anderson received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Player of the Week for Sept. 10-16 as the Bruins went 1-1 to open conference play. In a 3-2 loss at Whitman Friday, she had 17 kills, a .231 hitting pct., 1 assist, 2 aces, 6 digs, and 5 blocks (3 solo, 2 assists). In a 3-2 win at Whitworth Saturday, she had 14 kills, a .317 hitting pct., 1 assist, 1 ace, 3 digs, and 4 blocks (1-3). For the week, she had 31 kills (3.10 kpg) and 9 errors in 80 attempts (.275), 2 assists, 3 aces, 9 digs, and 9 blocks (4-5). Anderson ranks 2nd in the NWC in blocks (1.19).
