1/11 - GEORGE FOX 63, PACIFIC 52: Cave Leads Bruins over Boxers

Box Score

NEWBERG, Ore. - Darby Cave's clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch propelled the George Fox University Bruins past the Pacific University Boxers 63-52 in a Northwest Conference women's basketball battle Saturday night (Jan. 11) here at Miller Gymnasium.

In a game in which the Bruins led for all but a minute and a half, Cave hit 8-10 from the line to lead George Fox with 18 points and six rebounds. The Bruins led by as many as 12 early in the first half before the Boxers clawed back into the game, eventually taking the lead 36-34 with 16 minutes to play. However, Kellie Thomas hit two unanswered three-pointers to reclaim the lead and the Bruins did not look back after that.

Cave was joined in double figures by Amy Fitch (13) and Kim Leith (14). Leith also provided six rebounds and seven assists. Liz Clark overcame a rough 0-6 shooting night to claim 15 rebounds and two steals for George Fox.

Pacific was led by Mary Lindburg and Tori Nelson with 12 points each. Poor free-throw shooting hurt the Boxers, as they made just 9-17 from the line while the Bruins hit 21-27.

The win boosted George Fox to 7-5 (2-1 in the NWC) while the Boxers fell to 6-6 (2-2 in the NWC).

George Fox next takes the court in Portland as they face Lewis & Clark College on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 6:00 p.m. Pacific has a week off and then returns to action at home against Pacific Lutheran University on Friday, Jan. 17, at 6:00 p.m.
