1/3 - George Fox-St. Martin's Women's Basketball Game of Jan. 3 Postponed Due to Bad Weather
NEWBERG, Ore. - With already-snowy conditions in the Puget Sound area expected to get worse, the women's basketball game between George Fox University and St. Martin's College that was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 3, at 7:00 p.m. in Lacey, Wash., has been postponed.
George Fox director of athletics Craig Taylor made the decision about 12:15 Saturday afternoon to keep the Bruins from traveling after viewing live internet weather pictures of the Olympia-Lacey area and consulation with security personnel at St. Martin's.
"We were told, and could see from the pictures, that it was already snowing in the area," said Taylor, "and with conditions like that, plus an expected drop in temperatures, we were concerned that, even if the team got up there, they would not be able to get back for a few days."
Phone calls from George Fox to St. Martin's athletics personnel had not yet been returned, but Bruin coach Scott Rueck said, "We hope to make up the game if we can find a mutually-agreeable time, although both teams will be in the midst of conference schedules later on, but we'll have to decide on that once I talk to their coach."
Next action for the Bruins will be Friday, Jan. 9, when they host the University of Puget Sound at 6:00 p.m. in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams.
