The Tommies from St. Paul, Minn., received 3 points, tied for 50th, in the NCAA pre-season poll ... The Tommies are coming off a 15-12 season ... St. Thomas will play Luther of Iowa on Nov. 29 in the Tommies' season opener in St. Paul ... NORTHWEST CONFERENCE: George Fox (2-0) was picked to finish 3rd in the NWC this season, one spot above last year's 4th-place finish. Pacific Lutheran is this year's slight NWC favorite over Whitworth. The Bruins have nine non-conference games this season, all of them before the NWC opener on Jan. 9 vs. Puget Sound. COACH SCOTT RUECK (Oregon State '91) has a record of 132-49 (.729) in his 8th season as a head coach, all at George Fox. He was Northwest Conference "Coach of the Year" in 1999-2000 and "Co-Coach of the Year" in 2000-01. He and his wife Kerry, a GFU assistant coach and former Bruin player, became proud parents on Oct. 21 with the birth of their first child, son Cole Michael.

* Cave Honorable Mention for NWC "Player of the Week":

Darby Cave (Sr., P, Portland, Ore. / Central Catholic HS) led the Bruins to a 2-0 week with a 62-55 win over Evergreen State and a 76-62 win over Concordia-Portland in the Concordia Classic, earning Honorable Mention for Northwest Conference "Player of the Week" for Nov. 17-23. Against Evergreen on Friday, she scored a team-high 13 points on 6-12 from the field and 1-2 from the line, with a team high of 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. She scored a game-high 19 points vs. Concordia on Saturday, hitting 9-12 from the field and 1-1 from the line, with 9 rebounds and 1 block. For the week, she hit 15-24 from the field (.625) and 2-3 from the line (.667) for 32 points (16.0), grabbed 17 rebounds (8.5), and had 5 blocks (2.5). She was a First Team All-Conference choice in '02-03.

NWC "Player of the Week" honors went to Tiffany Speer of Whitworth, who led the Pirates to a 2-0 week with 51 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists.

* Bruins Miss Assists Record by One:

Running their offense extremely well in a 76-62 win over Concordia-Portland on Nov. 30 in the Concordia-Portland Classic, the George Fox Bruins passed out 26 assists in 29 field goals, one assist short of the Bruins' single-game record. The Bruins had 27 assists in a game vs. Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 8, 1991, and vs. Columbia Christian on Jan. 30, 1993 ...
