2/28 - NCAA TOURNAMENT: Bruins Announce Game Time and Ticket Info for Women's Playoff Game
NEWBERG, Ore. - Tip-off time has been set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, and ticket plans have been announced for the George Fox University Bruins' second-round game in the 2004-05 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Tournament. George Fox, the No. 2 seed out of the West Region, has a first-round bye and will host the winner of a first-round game between Chapman University and California Lutheran University that will be played Wednesday in Orange, Calif.
Tickets for the game are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and seniors, and children age 6 and under are free. All fans, including George Fox faculty, staff, and students, must purchase tickets for all NCAA playoff games, as required by the NCAA. Discount coupons are not applicable. While a large crowd is anticipated, a sellout is not expected in the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym on campus, which seats some 2,500, therefore tickets will be sold only at the gate and not in advance.
The Bruins, who are 20-5 overall, earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning the Northwest Conference championship with a 14-2 league mark, a game ahead of Whitworth College. George Fox is the conference's lone representative in the 50-team field. Chapman (20-5) received a Pool B bid as one of the nation's top independents, while Cal Lutheran(18-7) was the champion of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
This will be the third NCAA appearance for the Bruins in the last six years. In 2000, George Fox defeated Linfield 63-51 and California Lutheran 71-63, both at home, in the first two rounds, before falling to St. Thomas (Minn.) 76-64 in a "Sweet 16" sectional game in Abilene, Texas. In 2001, the Bruins received a first-round bye before hosting a second-round game against St. Thomas, which again eliminated the Bruins 64-52.
