3/25 - ALL-AMERICA: Bruins' Leith Receives Honorable Mention for D3hoops All-America Team
NEWBERG, Ore. - Shooting star Kim Leith of George Fox University has received honorable mention for the D3hoops.com NCAA Division III All-America women's basketball team, capping off a terrific junior season for the 5-7 wing from Sherwood. Ore.
By receiving All-America honors, Leith adds to the legacy of one of the finest season in Bruin basketball history. She was named Northwest Conference Player of the Year and an All-West Region Second Team player after averaging 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Her scoring average was 5th in the conference and 35th nationally, and she set a new school record with 30 points in one half against Neumann. One of the best three-point shooters around, she led the NWC and ranked 8th nationally in three-point field goals per game (2.89), while her three-point percentage of .400 was 3rd in the conference and 28th nationally. She set a new George Fox single-season record with 485 points, and moved into 8th place on the all-time GFU scoring list with 1,004 career points.
Leith's outstanding season paralleled a remarkable season for the whole team. After being picked to finish 5th, the Bruins surprised the Northwest Conference with a 14-2 league mark to win the conference and its automatic berth into the NCAA National Tounament. After receiving a first-round bye, the Bruins defeated Chapman University and the College of St. Benedict to become the first George Fox women's team to reach the "Elite 8" round, where they were ousted by eventual national runner-up Randolph-Macon College. George Fox finished with a 22-6 overall record, a #12 ranking in the final D3hoops.com national poll, and a #10 ranking in the final WBCA national poll.
