11/30 - GEORGE FOX 81, CASCADE 43: Bruin Defense Forces 37 Turnovers in Cruise Past Thunderbirds
PORTLAND, Ore. - In a game in which they never trailed, the George Fox University defense forced 37 turnovers and the Bruins cruised past the Cascade College Thunderbirds 81-43 in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday night here at the Cascade Thunderdome.
Liz Clark's three-point basket 15 seconds into the game got the Bruins out in front early. A jumper by Sharleen Agee brought the Thunderbirds within four at 25-21 with 10:11 left in the half, but the Bruin defense held the home team scoreless the rest of the half. The offense, meanwhile, scored the final 15 points of the period and the Bruins led 40-21 at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half as George Fox stretched its lead to as many as 43 twice, the last time on a layup by Jordan Tangonan with 4:12 left, making it 74-31. All 15 members of the Bruins' roster were able to play five minutes or more, and 14 of them scored.
Rookie point guard Tiffany Behary led the Bruins with 15 points, 4 assists, and 6 steals. Kim Leith scored 12 points and Erin Powers had a career-high 11. Amy Layton led the Bruins on the boards with 5 rebounds.
Agee led the T-Birds with 13 points and Molly Wilson added 10. Lisa Berger-Freeman had a game-high 9 rebounds as Cascade out-boarded the Bruins 43-37. Liz Rizza had a game-high 7 assists. Cascade was held to a .305 shooting percentage (18-59) by the Bruins' stifling defense.
George Fox is now 1-2 on the season, while Cascade fell to 3-3. The Bruins are off until next Thursday, Dec. 9, when they host Western Baptist College at 7:00 p.m. in their home opener.
