NORTHWEST CONFERENCE:
The start of conference play is still a month away, but pre-season NWC favorites Puget Sound and Whitman, along with Whitworth, have shown they will present stiff challenges with their early showings. Puget Sound is 6-0 and ranked 7th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, Whitworth is 5-0, and Whitman is 4-1. NWC teams went 3-0 against the nation's 7th-ranked team, Carleton (Minn.), which was on a road swing to the Pacific Northwest last week. BRUIN BITS:
* Behary Honorable Mention for NWC "Player of the Week"
Tiffany Behary led the Bruins to an 81-43 win at Cascade in their only game of the week, earning Honorable Mention for Northwest Conference Player of the Week for Nov. 29-Dec. 5. She scored a game and career-high 15 points on 6-10 (.600) from the field (2-3, .667 on 3's) and 1-1 (1.000) from the line. She passed out 4 assists, made 6 steals, and had 3 rebounds, all in just 20 minutes of playing time. The freshman point guard hails from Lake Oswego, Ore.
* 2004-05 Honors:
Liz Clark - Sodexho Tipoff Classic All-Tournament Team
* Double-Doubles:
Liz Clark: career 8, season 1 - 13 pts/12 reb at Seattle Pacific, 11/20
* Bruins' 25 Steals Just Short of Record at Cascade
In one of the finest defensive efforts ever by a George Fox women's team, the Bruins came up with 25 steals and forced 37 total turnovers in their 81-43 win at Cascade on Nov. 30. The steals total was just four short of the team record of 29 vs. Oregon Tech on Dec. 2, 1989. The record for most turnovers by an opponent is not listed in the George Fox record books at present.
* Did Any D-III Team Have a Tougher Start than Bruins?
"Strength of schedule" is often touted as a more accurate reflection of a team's ability than its won-lost record. If that is true, it would be hard to find fault with the Bruins' 1-2 start. The Bruins' first game was an overtime loss to Central Washington, a Division II team that won 17 games last year, was picked to finish 3rd in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this year, and is off to a 6-0 start. Their second game was a setback after being within four points in the second half to Seattle Pacific, currently 5-1 and ranked No. 5 in Division II after going 62-1 over the last two seasons.
* Career Lists:
Liz Clark had 4 rebounds in the Bruins' win at Cascade last week, giving her 540 for her career, 10th on the all-time GFU list. Next are Darby Cave (544, 2000-04) and Tracy Nelson (555, 1988-92) ...
