2/23 - ALL-NWC: Trio of Bruin Cagers Garner All-Northwest Conference Recognition
Complete All-Northwest Conference Teams
NEWBERG, Ore. - Three members of the George Fox University women's basketball team have received 2005-06 All-Northwest Conference recognition as wing Kim Leith was named to the First Team, wing Robin Taylor to the Second Team, and post Katy Campbell received honorable mention.
The three were instrumental in the Bruins' 19-6 season, the 13th straight winning record for the team, and 10-6 league mark that earned them a tie for third place with Whitman College. During the season, the Bruins tied school records for most consecutive wins (11) and most wins at the start of a season (11).
Leith, a senior from Sherwood, Ore., capped off her outstanding four-year career with another fine season. While leading the team in scoring (13.8 ppg), she ranked 6th in the NWC in that category, as well as being 3rd in three point field goals (2.12) and free throw percentage (.829), 8th in three-point percentage (.344), 9th in steals (1.72), and 15th in assists (2.12). A pre-season Third Team All-America choice by D3hoops.com, she earned All-Tournament honors in the D3 Hoop in Hawaii Classic early in the season.
Leith finished her career 4th on the all-time GFU scoring list with 1,348 points and 7th in assists with 235. She is the all-time leader in three-pointers with 205, and edged Christy Brock for the all-time free throw percentage lead, making 210-259 for a .8108 mark to .8105 for Brock. She was the 2004-05 Northwest Conference Player of the Year in leading the Bruins to a 22-6 record and the "Elite 8" round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
Taylor, a junior from Bend, Ore., was 2nd on the team in scoring and 8th in the conference at 13.2 points per game. She was the league leader in field goal percentage (.525) while ranking 4th in three-point field goal percentage (.429), 5th in three-pointers (1.56) and free throw percentage (.784), 7th in assists (2.72), and 11th in steals (1.68). She was named the Most Valuable Player in the D3 Hoops in Hawaii Classic and received Northwest Conference Player of the Week honors for Nov. 21-27.
Campbell, a sophomore from Springfield, Ore., led the Bruins in rebounds per game (6.4) while ranking 7th in the conference. She was also 11th in field goal percentage (.461), 15th in steals (1.48), and 23rd in scoring (8.6). She recorded her first career double-doubles with 13 points and 11 rebounds at Lewis & Clark, and 12 points and 10 rebounds at Whitman.
