11/18 - GEORGE FOX 81, NORTHWEST 65: Taylor's Late Flurry Keeps Bruins Ahead of Eagles

NEWBERG, Ore. - Robin Taylor scored 11 of her game-high 22 points on a three-pointer and 8 of 8 free throws in the final four minutes, enabling the George Fox University Bruins to hold off the Northwest University Eagles 81-65 in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday night here at the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym.

After a slow start - neither team scored in the first four minutes as they combined for 11 missed shots and seven turnovers - the Bruins used a 9-0 run, capped by a Kaleigha Ramey layup, to take a 22-10 lead with eight minutes left in the first half. The Bruins maintained a double-digit lead most of the remainder of the period, taking a 35-36 lead into the break.

Northwest got within six at 39-33 three minutes into the second half on a three by Brittney Marshall, but George Fox then went on a 20-6 run to take its largest lead of 20 points at 59-39 on a steal and layup by Elise Kuenzi with 11:13 to play. Sam McCracken sparked a 21-9 outburst by scoring 10 points, including eight a row to ignite the run, that pulled the Eagles within eight at 68-60 with 3:12 left. Nicole Hudson hit a three to slow the Eagles' momentum, and Taylor hit eight free throws in the final 1:39 to seal the win.

Taylor, who hit four three-pointers in the game, was aided in the scoring column by Melissa Marek-Farris with 15 points and B.B. Gardner with 11. Marek-Farris notched her first career double-double by pulling down 12 rebounds, leading the Bruins to a 39-36 edge on the boards, and blocking four shots. Katy Campbell had seven assists and nine rebounds, and Hudson made four steals.

Brittany Bowsher led the Eagles with 16 points, Kim Sandberg had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and McCracken ended with 10. Jasmine Yeldon handed out four assists, and Sandberg had four steals.

George Fox (2-0) hosts Concordia University-Portland next Saturday at 7 p.m. Northwest (3-3) visits the University of Puget Sound Tuesday at 6 p.m.
