Box Score

NEWBERG, Ore. - Sparked by a 14-0 run to start the second half that broke open a close game, the George Fox University Bruins doubled the points total of their opponent in the final period en route to a 74-45 win over the Concordia University-Portland Cavaliers in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday night here at the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym.

Katy Campbell hit a layup with 17:25 left in the first half to give George Fox a lead it would not relinquish at 5-4, but the Cavaliers stayed close for the next eight minutes and were only down one at 19-18 with 8:52 to go after a layup by Lyndsee Landon. The Bruins went on a 9-0 run at that point, and eventually built a 12-point lead at 34-22 on a three-pointer from the corner by Mandee Spotts with 40 seconds left. A steal by the Cavs' Denise Benedict and a running three from the top of the key by Ashley Baker at the buzzer sent the teams to the locker room with a nine-point margin, the Bruins leading 34-25.

A layup by Robin Taylor ignited the Bruins' 14-point outburst, which also featured threes by B.B. Gardner and Campbell, to open the second half, giving the Bruins a 48-25 lead with 16:14 to play. The lead was never less than 20 thereafter, with the widest gap being 32 points at 69-37 with 3:59 left on a jumper by Mellisa Eastwold. The Bruins outscored the Cavaliers in the half 40-20.

Campbell led all scorers with 15 points, Taylor added 13, Gardner 11, and Kaleigha Ramey 10 off the bench. Melissa Marek-Farris pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Bruins to a 42-32 edge on the boards. Gardner had 6 assists. The Bruins connected for a .468 percentage from the field (22-47) while holding the Cavs to .310 (18-58), and held a decided advantage from the line, hitting 21-26 (.808) to only 8-15 (.533) for the visitors.

Landon and Tonya Baker topped the Cavaliers with 10 points each, while Baker led the way on the boards with 6 rebounds and also picked up 5 steals. Kelsey Schaefer had 3 assists.
