* Rankings/Polls: GFU Up to 19th in D3hoops Poll, 24th in WBCA
A 4-0 start has enabled the George Fox Bruins to climb a couple of spots in both national NCAA Division III polls. In the USA Today / ESPN poll as voted on by the Women's Basketball Coaches of America, George Fox moved up from 26th in the pre-season poll to 24th, collecting 44 points. In the D3hoops.com poll, the Bruins were 19th with 194 points after being tied for 21st with Emmanuel in the pre-season rankings.
George Fox has been ranked in the polls six of the past eight years (2000-2002 and 2005-2007). The Bruins' highest ranking ever was No. 1, a spot they held for two week in February of 2001.
The only other Northwest Conference team in the rankings is Puget Sound, which was 17th in the EBCA poll 15th in D3hoops.com. Ironically, in the pre-season poll of conference coaches, George Fox was picked ahead of Puget Sound, the Bruins being favored to win the league with the Loggers finishing second.
The WBCA poll had Howard Payne as the new No. 1 team, replacing Washington-St. Louis, while the D3hoops.com poll kept Mary Washington as its top team.
