3/2/2008 - LEWIS & CLARK STARTER: Bruins Take 2nd in First Match of Spring Season
OREGON CITY, Ore. - Led by Brianna Nap's 42-42=84 that earned her a tie for fourth place, the George Fox University Bruins got the spring portion of their 2007-08 women's golf season off to a fine start with a second-place finish in the Lewis & Clark College Starter Tournament Sunday here at the Stone Creek Golf Course.
The Bruins shot a team score of 348, 12 strokes behind champion Pacific University's 336. Linfield College took third with a 368, Northwest Christian College was fourth at 389, and host Lewis & Clark carded a 493.
"Our women played solid in their first tournament of the spring season," said Bruin coach MaryJo McCloskey. "They hit it great - some steep bunkers gave them some trouble and cost them some strokes - but other than that, it was close! We look forward to teeing it up again this coming weekend at the Pacific Invitational."
Brittany Zefkeles tied for 7th with a 42-43=85, Mandy Cameron scored a 45-42=87, and Whitney Clunes shot a 44-48=92 for the Bruins. Medalist honors went to Brynn Hurdus of Linfield with a 39-40=79, one stroke ahead of Ashley King of Northwest Christian, who had a 41-39=80.
Next up for the Bruins is the Pacific Invitational Tournament Saturday-Sunday, March 8-9. Saturday's play will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Meriwether National Golf Course in Hillsboro, Ore., while Sunday's tee time is 8:00 a.m. at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in North Plains, Ore.
