BANDON, Ore. - Getting and opportunity to play on one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in the entire country, the George Fox University Bruins bested the Southwestern Oregon Community College Lakers 373-415 in a women's golf dual match Tuesday afternoon here at the Bandon Dunes Golf Course.

The Bruins were led by Brianna Nap, who carded an 18-hole score of 48-39=87 on the par 72, 5,800 yard course. She was followed by Mandy Cameron with a 48-44=92 and Whitney Clunes with a 46-48=94 as the Bruins took the top three spots. Fourth place belonged to Southwestern Oregon's Holly Ewing, who shot a 96, and fifth went to SWOCC's Jessica Marcum at 97.

"The scenary here is spectacular, and we can see why it's one of the top courses in the world," said Bruin coach MaryJo McCloskey. "The weather has been nice, but the winds were steady and difficult and added a huge challenge for a team who had never played the course before. Brianna scored an 8 on the par 4 first hole due to a tough bunker situation, but she didn't let it effect the rest of her round and went on to score the lowest back nine score to win medalist honors. Mandy also finished strong after a few tough holes on the front side. Our team has enjoyed every minute of this beautiful golf experience, and look forward to our next event this weekend."

The next competition for the Bruins is the Northwest Conference Spring Classic Friday and Saturday, Mar. 28-29, at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore. Tee times are set for 9:00 a.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The NWC Spring Classic counts as one-quarter of the score for determining the conference champion.
