4/5/2008 – TACOMA INVITATIONAL: Bruins Only Five Strokes Out after Day 1 of Tacoma Tourney

TACOMA, Wash. – Five strokes are all that separate the top three teams, George Fox University among them, after the first day of play in the Tacoma Invitational women’s golf tournament hosted by the University of Puget Sound Saturday here at the Fort Lewis Golf Course.

 

Host Puget Sound holds a four-stroke edge over Pacific University 359 to 363, with George Fox five strokes off the pace at 364.  Pacific Lutheran University is a distant fourth at 396.  Tee time for the final round on the par 74, 5,822-yard layout begins at 12:00 noon Sunday.

 

Two UPS Loggers sit atop the leader board after the first day: Sarah Bicker with a 44-43=87 and Megan Starr with a 41-46=87.  One stroke back and tied for third are the Bruins’ Brittany Zefkeles at 46-42=88 and Brianna Nap at 45-43=88.  Lauren Yoshimura of Pacific is fifth at 44-45=89.

 

Among the rest of the Bruins, Mandy Cameron came in with a 47-46=93, Whitney Clunes was at 47-48=95, and Nicole Hudson had a 50-45=95.
