RECENT EVENTS: Bruins Finish 3rd in Linfield Invitational

Sept. 28 - Linfield Invitational at Michelbook CC, McMinnville, Ore.
--- 361, 3rd of 7 ( Press Release / Results)

COMING UP: Willamette 5-Way and Own GFU 5-Way

* Fri., Oct. 5, 12:30 pm - Willamette 5-Way Tournament at Illahe Hills Country Club, Salem, Ore.
* Sun., Oct. 7, 12:00 pm - George Fox 5-Way Tournament at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course, Newberg, Ore.

The Willamette and George Fox Tournaments are part of a series of events hosted by Northwest Conference schools for the Oregon teams which are members of the NWC: George Fox, Linfield, Willamette University, Pacific University, and Lewis & Clark College. Other schools may also be invited, such as at last week's Linfield Invitational. The four NWC teams in Washington also have their own series in the fall. All nine schools then come together for the NWC Fall Classic, with the results counting toward one-quarter of the team scores for determining the conference champion (the NWC Spring Classic counts another quarter and the NWC Championship in the spring counts for the final half).

The George Fox program, which is in only its second year, will be hosting its fall tournament for the second time, but for the first time with a complete 18-hole course, as Chehalem Glenn featured only nine holes for its first two years. The back nine opened this September with some spectacular holes that have contributed to the course being considered one of the most challenging in the state.

COACH MARYJO McCLOSKEY

MaryJo McCloskey, a graduate of the University of Oregon, is in her second season at George Fox and her 10th season overall as a college women's golf head coach. She spent eight years with the Lewis & Clark women's team before joining the GFU staff in the spring of 2006 to start up the new Bruin program. Click here for the complete bio on Coach McCloskey.

BRUIN BITS:

* Zefkeles Named Bruin Athletic Association Athlete of the Week

Freshman Brittany Zefkeles has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Women's Athlete of the Week for Sept. 24-30 after finishing fourth, three shots off the lead, with a 43-43=86 in the Linfield Invitational Sept. 28 at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville. She was only one stroke off the pace at the turn. Her score led the Bruins to a third-place finish in the event with a school-record low score of 361. It was the second straight week for a Bruin golfer to win the BAA award, following Whitney Clunes for the week of Sept. 17-23.

* 2007-08 Honors

- Whitney Clunes
Bruin Athletic Association Women's Athlete of the Week (Sept. 17-23)
- Brittany Zefkeles

* Bruins Post New Low Scores in Linfield Tournament

With a four-player score of 361 in the Linfield Invitational on Sept. 28, the Bruins' second-year program continues to show steady improvement. The Bruins topped their first year's best of 386 in the very first match this season, shooting a 373 in the Pacific 5-Way on Sept. 23, and bettered that by 12 strokes in the Linfield tournament. In back-to-back events, all six members of the Bruin team shot under 100, the first two times that has happened for the young team. All three freshmen - Brittany Zefkeles (86), Mandy Cameron (91), and Brianna Nap (97) - set new personal scores in the Linfield Invitational.
