9/8 - EASTERN MENNONITE 3, GEORGE FOX 2: Bruins Drop First Game in Virginia to Lady Royals

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. - A pair of goals by Katie Lamm, the second breaking a tie in the second half, carried the Eastern Mennonite University Lady Royals to a 3-2 win over the George Fox University Bruins in a non-conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon here at the EMU soccer field.

The Bruins jumped out to the early lead on a goal off the foot of Kirsten Cardwell, assisted by Nicole Akiu, at the 11:20 mark. EMU responded with a goal from Lamm, her fourth of the season, to tie the game at 27:21. That 1-1 score stood until the second half.

Jessica Myers gave the Lady Royals their first lead of the game when she connected with the back of the net off a header from Kacie Ruark from 10 yards in front of the goal at the 58:52 mark of the second half. GFU returned the favor by posting its second goal of the contest, this time from Akiu directly off a corner kick at 60:21 for a 2-2 tie.

Lamm then sealed the win for EMU with her team-leading fifth goal of the year at the 63:43 mark, putting her only five points away from tying for second on the EMU all-time points list. EMU goalkeeper Abigale Diffenbach stopped a potential game-tying kick from Cardwell on the near post with less than six minutes remaining and finished the contest with 10 saves. Jessica Cardwell, Kirsten's older sister, kept the Bruins in the game with six saves.

George Fox (1-1) visits Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va., Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time (1:00 a.m. Eastern). Eastern Mennonite (2-1-1) goes to Sweet Briar College for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
