9/15 - GEORGE FOX 1, PACIFIC LUTHERAN 0: McKinsey Victimizes Former Team as Bruins Edge Lutes

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. - Coming back to haunt her former team, George Fox University forward Jenny McKinsey scored the only goal of the game late in the second half as the Bruins earned a 1-0 win over the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon here at the PLU Field.

After leading PLU in scoring with nine goals as a freshman last year, McKinsey transferred to George Fox during the summer. In a tight defensive struggle, she took advantage of the only break in the game when she took a pass from Amber Stevens, made a crossover move to beat a defender, and hit a right-footed shot into the net for the winner with 4:05 left in the game. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

George Fox keeper Jessica Cardwell made three saves in posting her first shutout of the season and the 14th of her career, third on the all-time Bruin list and just two short of Meghan Gibson's record of 16. Amanda Tschauner recorded six saves for PLU. The Bruins finished with a 12-6 shot advantage and also had nine corner kicks to just two for PLU.

Coupled with Thursday's win over Willamette University, the Bruins are now 2-0 in conference play for the first time in coach Andy Hetherington's six years at George Fox and for the first time since the 2000 team began with a 3-0 league record. Now 4-1 overall, the Bruins play again next Saturday when they host Whitman College at 12:00 noon. The Lutes return to action at noon Sunday when they face Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore.
