COACH ANDY HETHERINGTON

Andy Hetherington (St. John's, U.K., '76) is 32-69-4 (.324) in his 6th season as the women's soccer coach at George Fox. He was 123-20-5 in 10 seasons as a high school coach in the Portland, Ore., area before taking the position at George Fox. Click here for the complete bio on Coach Hetherington.

BRUIN BITS:

* Stevens, Alway HM for NWC Offensive, Defensive Honors

Senior forward Amber Stevens and sophomore goalkeeper Sally Alway received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively for Sept. 24-30 as the Bruins went 1-1 in conference play.

Stevens scored both goals in the Bruins' 2-1 double-overtime win at Lewis & Clark on Sept. 26, taking 3 shots, 2 on goal, and had 1 shot on goal in an overtime 1-0 loss at Pacific on Sept. 29. She is 2nd in the NWC in shots (45), 3rd in points (15) and goals (6), and 7th in assists (3).

Alway improved her record to 3-0 by going 101 minutes in the 2-1 double-overtime win at Lewis & Clark on Sept. 26, making 3 saves while facing 11 shots, 4 on goal. She did not play in the Bruins' other game of the week at Pacific on Sept. 29.

* Polls: Bruins Ranked 7th in NSCAA/NCAA D-III West Region

After a pair of overtime games in which they defeated Lewis & Clark 2-1 before bowing 1-0 at Pacific, the George Fox Bruins slipped one spot to 7th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas NCAA Division III West Region rankings of Oct. 2. Puget Sound (10-0) is the No. 1 in the region, followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (8-3), Whitworth (8-1), Occidental (5-2), California-Santa Cruz (5-2-1), Redlands (3-2-3), George Fox (6-3), Pomona-Pitzer (4-3-2), Chapman (5-4-2), and California State-East Bay (5-3-1).

* Bruins' Offensive Outburst vs. Simpson Biggest in Four Years
When the Bruins scored seven goals in their win over the Simpson (Calif.) Lady Red Hawks on Oct. 1, it was their largest offensive output in four years. The last time the Bruins scored as many goals in a game was on Sept. 9, 2003, when they rolled to an 11-0 win at Cascade College in Portland, Ore. The Bruins had scored as many as six goals in a game three times since the Cascade outburst. Contributing to the explosion of goals vs. Simpson were Amber Stevens and Nicole Akiu with two apiece, and Jenny McKinsey, Molly Schaefer, and Jessica McMorran with one each.

* NWC Stats: Four Bruins Listed Among Offensive League Leaders

In Northwest Conference offensive stats through Oct. 1, George Fox is 2nd in shots (169), shots per game (16.90), 3rd in points (63), points per game (6.30), goals (24), goals per game (2.40), assists (15), assists per game (1.50), 4th in corner kicks (37) ... Defensively, the Bruins are 2nd in shutouts (4, T), 3rd in goals allowed (10, T), 4th in goals against avg. (0.98), saves (53), 6th in saves per game (5.30) ...

* Career Lists: Cardwell Ties Bruins' Record with 16th Shutout

- Jessica Cardwell tied the George Fox career record for goalkeeper shutouts when she posted her 16th in the Bruins' 7-0 win over Simpson (Calif.) on Oct. 1. She is tied with Meghan Gibson (16, 1997-98).
- Amber Stevens had two goals in the Bruins' 2-1 win at Lewis & Clark on Sept. 26, then added two goals and an assist in a 7-0 win over Simpson on Oct. 1, bringing her career points total to 52 (21 goals, 10 assists). She passed Julie Jensen (46, 1991-94) and Katrina Crabb (49, 1995-97) for 5th on the all-time GFU points list. Ahead is Staci Morris (54, 1994-97) ... With 21 career goals, she passed Jensen (18) and is now tied for 4th all-time with Morris and Crabb ... With 10 assists, she is tied for 8th with Jensen and Noelle Miller (1998-99) ...
