10/7 - PUGET SOUND 1, GEORGE FOX 0: 5th-Ranked Loggers Chip Off Bruins on Penalty Kick

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. - Good teams don't need much more than a break here or there, and that's all it took - a foul in the penalty box and subsequent penalty kick goal - for the 5th-ranked University of Puget Sound Loggers to remain unbeaten with a 1-0 win over the George Fox University Bruins in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match Sunday afternoon here at Peyton Field.

Following a foul in the box at the 22:46 mark, Fiona Gornick was given a penalty kick and to put the ball past George Fox keeper Jessica Cardwell. The Logger defense did the job the rest of the way, limiting the Bruins to five shots total and only one on goal. Keeper Kallie Wolfer made a save on that one, preserving the shutout.

Cardwell had six saves for the Bruins, who allowed 21 shots by the Loggers, seven on goal. UPS held a 5-0 margin in corner kicks as well. It was the 17th straight win in the series for the Loggers.

George Fox (8-4, NWC 5-3) will return to action Thursday, visiting Willamette University for a 7:00 p.m. night game. Puget Sound (12-0, NWC 8-0), which is the No. 1-ranked team in the NCAA Division III West Region, will travel to Willamette Saturday for a 12:00 noon contest.
