2/16 - PUGET SOUND 9, GEORGE FOX 0: Bruins Blanked in Season Opener by Loggers
TACOMA, Wash. - Opening their 2007 women's tennis season with a tough road contest, the George Fox University Bruins were shut out by the University of Puget Sound Loggers 9-0 in a Northwest Conference match Friday afternoon here at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
The Loggers swept through the match-opening doubles as Courtney Dunham and Alyssa Sidoff defeated the Bruins' Lindsay Hagler and Alayna Shaw 8-0 at No. 1, Katie Russell and Katie Schultz downed Valerie Ring and Leilani Jackson 8-2 at No. 2, and Christina Podlusky and Sam Taylor dropped Brittany Ekstrom and Shanna Lesire 8-1 at No. 3.
The Bruins' most competitive match came at No. 1 singles, in which Ring was edged by Dunham 6-4, 6-3. In the rest of the matches, the Loggers got wins from Sidoff over Jackson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, Schultz over Hagler 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, Russell over Rebecca Crinnion 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, Taylor over Ekstrom 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5, and Alana Wong over Lesire 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
George Fox (0-1, NWC 0-1) stays in Tacoma to play Albertson College Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in a non-conference neutral-site match at UPS. Puget Sound (1-0, NWC 1-0) hosts Pacific University Saturday at 2 p.m. and Albertson at 5:30 p.m.
