2/17 - ALBERTSON 7, GEORGE FOX 2: Bruins Fall in Non-Conference Match to Lady Yotes
TACOMA, Wash. - Stepping outside the Northwest Conference to face an NAIA opponent, the George Fox University Bruins dropped their second match of the young women's tennis season with a 7-2 loss to the Albertson College Lady Yotes Saturday morning here at the University of Puget Sound's Tennis Pavilion.
Albertson took all three doubles matches to open play, with Kyla Westerberg and Kate Leadbetter besting George Fox's Valerie Ring and Lindsay Hagler 8-3 at No. 1, Amanda McEldowney and Kim Clements defeating Alayna Shaw and Shanna Lesire 8-2 at No. 2, and Melissa Rowe and Jenna McClean prevailing over Leilani Jackson and Linsey Wages 8-6 at No. 3.
The Bruins picked up two singles wins when Hagler got an injury default win over the Lady Yotes' Mariah Armstrong after the two had battled to a 6-6 tie at No. 2, and Shaw edged McEldowney 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 6. Albertson's wins came at No. 1 when Westerberg defeated Ring 6-0, 6-2, No. 3 as Leadbetter nipped Jackson 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, No. 4 when Clements took out Brittany Ekstrom 6-1, 6-0, and No. 5 with Rowe dropping Rebecca Crinnion 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
George Fox (0-2) returns home Sunday to play Lewis & Clark College in a Northwest Conference match, the first home contest of the season for the Bruins, at 12 noon. Albertson (1-3) was to play later Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Puget Sound.
