2/23 - WHITMAN 9, GEORGE FOX 0: Bruins Blanked by Missionaries in Eastern Washington
WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Still seeking that elusive first victory of the season, the George Fox University Bruins were unable to find it against a strong Whitman College team as the home-standing Missionaries posted a 9-0 victory over the visitors from Oregon in Northwest Conference women's tennis Friday evening here at the Brattain Tennis Center.
The Missionaries started their sweep with the doubles as Margo Lentz and Katie Collier downed Valerie Ring and Lindsay Hagler 8-3 at No. 1, Hadley DeBree and Divneet Kaur won 8- 5 at No. 2 over Alayna Shaw and Linsey Wages, and Emily Smith and Maura Flaherty posted an 8-2 win at No. 3 over Stephanie Kaylor and Shanna Lesire.
In singles, it was Whitman's DeBree over George Fox's Ring 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, Collier over Hagler 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, Smith over Leilani Jackson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, Katie Oost over Brittany Ekstrom 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, Flaherty over Rebecca Crinnion 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, and Kaur over Shaw 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6.
The loss dropped the Bruins to 0-4 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. The Missionaries raised their record to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference. George Fox plays at 12 noon Saturday at Whitworth College, while Whitman looks for its third straight conference win when it hosts Lewis & Clark College Saturday at 1 p.m.
