3/3 - GEORGE FOX 8, PACIFIC 1: Bruins Pick Up First Win by Picking On Boxers
NEWBERG, Ore. - Picking up their first win of the 2007 season, the George Fox University Bruins captured all but the No. 3 doubles in an 8-1 victory over the Pacific University Boxers in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match Saturday afternoon here at the GFU campus courts.
The Bruins opened by taking the top two doubles as Valerie Ring and Lindsay Hagler defeated Dayna Wong and Jaime Yoshino 8-6 at No. 1, and Alayna Shaw and Linsey Wages knocked off Ashley Spahn and Laura Swenson 8-6 at No. 2. The Boxers' only win came at No. 3 as Tessa Krebs and Sophie Waddington downed Shanna Lesire and Stephanie Kaylor 8-2.
The Bruins closed out the match by taking all six singles. Ring swept Wong 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Hagler downed Yoshino 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2, Rebecca Crinnion dropped Spahn 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3, Leilani Jackson subdued Waddington 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4, Brittany Ekstrom overcame Krebs 6-2, 0-6, (10-7) at No. 5, and Shaw beat Kelly McGee 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.
George Fox (1-5, NWC 1-4) next visits Willamette University Friday at 3 p.m. Pacific (0-7, NWC 0-5) goes to Whitman College Friday at 6 p.m.
