3/17 - GEORGE FOX 7, TREASURE VALLEY 2: Bruins Win Non-Counting Match with TVCC's Chukars
NEWBERG, Ore. - Winning all five singles matches played and the middle doubles match, the George Fox University Bruins defeated the Treasure Valley Community College Chukars from Ontario, Ore., in women's tennis 7-2 Saturday morning here at the GFU campus courts.
TVCC took the #1 doubles as Cassandra Andrews and Trish Lacey downed George Fox's Valerie Ring and Lindsay Hagler 806, and the #3 doubles with Nikki Anderson and Davis defeating Danika Heering and Lauren Miller 8-1. The Bruins' win came at #2 as Stephanie Kaylor and Linsey Wages edged Ashley Faw and Laurie Hamanishi 8-6.
The Bruins swept the top five singles, while the sixth was defaulted. Ring defeated Anderson 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) at #1, Leilani Jackson downed Hamanishi 6-0, 6-1 at #2, Brittany Ekstrom dropped Lacey 6-2, 6-1 at #3, Alayna Shaw conquered Faw 6-0, 6-2 at #4, and Shanna Lesire knocked off Anderson 6-1, 6-0.
The match did not count on George Fox's record. It was Treasure Valley's first match of the season. The Bruins visit Lewis & Clark College Sunday for a Northwest Conference match at 10 a.m. The Chukars go to Pacific University Sunday, also at 10 a.m.
