3/20 - LINFIELD 8, GEORGE FOX 1: Bruins Fall to NWC-Leading Wildcats in Last Match Before Break
NEWBERG, Ore. - In their final match before a 10-day layoff for the school's spring break, the George Fox University Bruins dropped an 8-1 decision to the Northwest Conference-leading Linfield College Wildcats in women's tennis on a crisp Tuesday afternoon here at the GFU campus courts.
The Wildcats opened the match, which was a makeup of a rain postponement from March 3, by taking all three doubles. Sallie Katter and Jeanna Parks defeated the Bruins' Valerie Ring and Lindsay Hagler 8-2 at #1, Kelli Sides and Molly Nelson won over Brittany Ekstrom and Leilani Jackson 8-4 at #2, and Melissa Maebori and Emma Becker downed Linsey Wages and Shanna Lesire 8-1 at #3.
In singles, it was Linfield's Sides over Ring 6-1, 6-0 at #1, Katter over Hagler 6-3, 6-1 at #1, Nelson over Rebecca Crinnion 6-2, 6-0 at #3, Parks over Ekstrom 6-3, 6-4 at #4, and Maebori over Shaw 6-2, 6-2 at #6. The Bruins picked up their win at #5 as Jackson triumphed over Becker 6-4, 6-2.
George Fox (1-11, NWC 1-10) is off until Saturday, March 31, when the Bruins host Whitworth College at 10 a.m. and Whitman College at 3:30 p.m. Linfield (10-2, NWC 10-0) plays again Thursday at 10 a.m. against the University of the South in Pomona, Calif., as part of a three-match swing through southern California over the weekend.
