4/10 - PACIFIC 5, GEORGE FOX 4: Boxers Edge Bruins for First Win in Over Two Years
FOREST GROVE, Ore. - With the match knotted at four wins apiece, Pacific University's Ashley Spahn scored a three-set win over George Fox University's Rebecca Crinnion at No. 3 singles, giving the Boxers their first win in over two years with a 5-4 decision over the visiting Bruins in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match Tuesday afternoon here at the Pacific courts.
George Fox took the No. 1 doubles match as Valerie Ring and Lindsay Hagler downed Pacific's Dayna Wong and Jamie Yoshino 8-4, but the Boxers bounced back at No. 2, Tessa Krebs and Sophie Waddington winning over Leliani Jackson and Brittany Ekstrom 8-4, and at No. 3, Spahn and Laura Swenson edging Kelsie Howell and Lauren Miller 8-6.
The Bruins took the No. 1 singles with Ring over Wong 6-3, 6-1, No. 4 with Jackson over Waddington 7-6, 6-2, and No. 6 with Shanna Lesire over Kelly McGee 6-3, 6-4, but could not get the fourth one they need for the win. The Boxers sewed up the victory by taking the No. 2 singles, Yoshino over Hagler 6-1, 6-2, the No. 5 singles with Krebs over Linsey Wages 6-1, 6-4, and the decisive No. 3 singles as Spahn nipped Crinnion 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
George Fox (1-14, NWC 1-13) hosts Willamette University Friday at 3:30 p.m. Pacific (1-16, NWC 1-14) concludes its regular season Sunday at Linfield College at 2 p.m.
