9/28 - ITA REGIONAL: Ring and Jackson Post Wins for Bruins in Pacific Northwest Regional

NEWBERG, Ore. - Valerie Ring and Leilani Jackson each posted first-round victories for the George Fox University women's tennis team in the prestigious Pacific Northwest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament Sept. 22-24 at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.

The Bruins' four participants in the tournament were a collective 2-6 in singles and 0-2 in doubles.

Ring opened with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Abby Funabiki of Willamette before falling to Becca Johnson of Linfield 6-0, 6-0. Jackson downed Carolyn Much of Willamette 6-1, 6-1, but was beaten by eventual champion Kasey Kuenzli of Linfield 6-0, 6-0.

Lesire fell to Christy Irvine of Whitman 6-3, 6-1, and to Hannah Johnson of Willamette 6-0, 6-0, while Howell dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Alyssa Morrison of Willamette, then retired from her match with Irvine while down 3-0 in the first set. In doubles, Ring and Howell lost 8-1 to Johnson and Megan Rodgers of Linfield, who eventually won the doubles title, and Lesire and Jackson fell to Ashley Coats and Tracy Fujitani of Pacific Lutheran 8-4.

The Pacific Northwest ITA Regional was the only fall tournament for the Bruins that will count on player records.
