Career Services

Career Services offers a variety of opportunities designed to assist students in making and implementing career decisions. The office is staffed by a director, associate director, and a career coordinator who welcome students to use their services. Career Services is located on the first floor of the Edward F. Stevens Center and at careers.georgefox.edu.

The Emerging Professional emphasis invites students to manage their own career planning over four years.

  • Career Classes Online
    • GEED 214 Major Selection and the Emerging Professional (for freshmen and sophomores selecting a major)
    • GEED 216 Internships and the Emerging Professional (for sophomores and juniors needing to explore the workplace)
    • GEED 218 Employment and the Emerging Professional (for juniors and seniors seeking employment)
    • BUSN 275 exploratory internship for credit
  • Assessments with interpretation and coaching to confirm career direction.
  • A Career resource center provides information on majors, occupations, graduate schools, labor market, employers, and job search skills.
  • "SIGI 3," an online comprehensive computer guidance system for use in career decision-making.
  • Career Conversations are promoted to give each student a 30 minute opportunity to discuss before and after graduation plans.
  • Preparing For and Finding Employment

  • A professional contact network of alumni is available to both students and alumni. Please contact Career Services for these referrals.
  • Internship resources that provide guidance and employer contacts, online internship center at careers.georgefox.edu
  • Job postings are published on BruinCareers on MyGFU. Available positions include full-time, part-time, seasonal, volunteer, internship opportunities and student employment opportunities. On-campus recruiting occurs at the request of employers to offer information and/or interviews for position openings.
  • The Optimal Resume system allows students to build their job search skills and have the work reviewed: resume, cover letter, interviews, eportfolio, skills assessment and website.
  • Participating in Special Career Events

  • Get Smart Job Search Workshop equips students with the skills to take command of their job search and hear directly from an employer
  • The Professional Etiquette Dinner provides additional opportunity for students to network with George Fox Alumni while learning etiquette from a professional trainer that will help with making positive first impressions.
  • The Fall Internship Fair is an excellent opportunity for students to make networking contacts with employers while learning about internship possibilities within a variety of industries.
  • Graduate School Admissions Prep gives opportunity for students to prepare for and explore a variety of graduate schools in addition to hearing experts on pertinent admission topics.
  • The First Avenue Career and Graduate School Fair includes recruitment interviews and career information for graduates and undergraduates for full-time entry-level positions, summer jobs, internships, and graduate school recruitment.
  • Professional Preview Day allows students to meet with a professional in their area of occupational interest for half a day.
  • Pizza Chats and other workshops are scheduled to include current topics of interest for career-minded students.
