The health and human performance major offers a 37-44 credit hour course of study (depending on concentration selected) that is designed to prepare students in pre-physical education teaching and pre-health teaching for entrance into an MAT program; to prepare students in fitness management for sitting for the NSCA and ACSM certification exams and/or for employment in the fitness industry.
Students are required to obtain a minimum grade of C- in all courses taken for the major.

Students who wish to become health teachers are essentially entering a five-year program. They will take the health preteaching concentration within the Department of Health and Human Performance. Upon successful completion of this four-year concentration, students are directed to enter a one-year Master of Arts in Teaching Program. Upon completion of the MAT program the student will have completed the master's degree and be certified to teach health.
