Before Scholarship Competition. If you are invited to compete at Scholarship Competition, you will need to submit the following materials before coming to campus. Please send the following items as electronic files attached to an email message addressed to Vetta Berokoff (firstname.lastname@example.org) by January 20, 2017.
A one-page resume that includes:
Education background with G.P.A.
Grades for all science, math and social science courses
College credit courses taken along with grades
Leadership, volunteer and extracurricular activities
Work and/or internship experiences
Additional information you feel is important
A one-page letter from someone who knows you and can speak to your interest in science
Please write an essay (max. 3 pages) on the following topic: How can the study of chemistry be applied to a specific problem such as one of the following? Choose one of the problems and discuss how chemistry can be used to address it.
Global climate change
Molecular-level understanding of diseases such as HIV or cancer
The detection of biological or nuclear materials that could serve as weapons or mass destruction
On the day of the competition, you will:
Participate in an interview with a member of the chemistry department
Participate in several group activities in the department
