Course Requirements:

Participants will be required to complete assigned readings and engage in 8 hours of online discussion. The syllabus will be available for review by June 9, 2012.

Overview:

The event is designed to introduce independent mental health practitioners to the specialty of clinical supervision and facilitate an initial mastery of basic supervision competencies. Special focus is on preparing professional counselor and marriage & family therapist interns for licensure. The course is taught in a hybrid format, including both face-to-face and online class activities. Course facilitators are AAMFT-Approved Supervisors, and actively supervise student and post-graduate interns.

Participants will explore advances in clinical supervision, including models, approaches, techniques, relationship and process issues, and legal and ethical considerations. Teaching methods include (a) 15 contact hours of collaborative didactic instruction, including review and discussion of reading materials, and face-to-face and online class activities; and (b) 15 contact hours of experiential instruction including group supervision of supervision via video tape, audio tape, or case presentation.

The workshop fulfills the 30-hour educational requirement of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Marriage & Family Therapists (OBLPCT). Consult the OBLPCT Oregon Administrative Rules for additional requirements to qualify as a clinical supervisor of MFT and PC interns at www.oregon.gov/OBLPCT.  This workshop is approved to fulfill the 30-hour didactic and experiential component of the AAMFT-Approved Supervision Certificate. Participants interested in pursuing this credential are expected to review the certification standards at www.aamft.org. Likewise, this course complies with the didactic and experiential components of the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) Approved Clinical Supervisor Certificate. Information regarding this certification may be obtained at www.cce-global.org.

This workshop may fulfill graduate university supervision training requirements for site supervision of professional counseling and marriage & family student interns. It is also intended to assist licensed mental health professionals who do not have an LMFT to become approved systems supervisors for MFT student interns. Completion of this process is dependent upon each university’s site supervision application requirements.

The course may also be used toward the six-hour training requirement for clinical social workers. Likewise, the course is intended for clinical psychologists interested in supervision training. The workshop may comply with the educational standards in supervision required by other accrediting agencies and state licensing boards; it is the responsibility of the participant to obtain verification directly with those organizations.

Registrant Qualifications:

Only therapists/counselors who have completed a master’s degree or higher in a nationally recognized independent practitioner mental health profession are eligible to register for this workshop. This includes professional counselors, marriage & family therapists, clinical psychologists, and clinical social workers.

This course is best suited for licensed clinicians. While the OBLPCT strongly recommends that all clinicians complete one year of post-graduate supervision prior to beginning training as a supervisor, this workshop will meet the Board’s educational requirements for all post-master therapists/counselors regardless of license status.
