My connection to George Fox goes back to hearing discussions that my dad was having about the name change from Pacific College to George Fox. I also came to campus with my dad as a young boy and watched football games and theatre productions. I became closely connected to the college when I came as a student-athlete in 1962 as a freshman, hoping to play football and baseball and get a great education. I did both and a lot more.

My George Fox experience with faculty and administrators had a profound influence on my life as I discerned my vocation in life. George Fox was at the center of shaping me into the man I have become. As a new member of the GFU team, after a 40-year career in international humanitarian relief and development, I have been able to reconnect with the power and vitality of this place. I have worked in some of the most needy places on earth and have led international organizations to make a difference for good in the world. I now get to be part of the GFU community as we teach, shape and send young adults out into the world to make a difference. I appreciate our emphasis on the importance of international learning experiences. Our world today is very small and connected, and we are doing a good job of preparing our students to relate to that world, whether it is in our own community, the next community away or around the world.

I am pleased to be able to help people and organizations realize their dreams of changing the world. We all want to leave a lasting legacy for good. George Fox is a wonderful place to help me extend my legacy of engaging with the world through the lives of students who graduate from here and make their mark in the world, extending the touch of Christ in every corner. I am very impressed with President Baker and his leadership team, faculty and staff. I can’t think of a better place to spend my second career.

I hope that my life of seeing what can be, rather than only what is, will be helpful to our community and all stakeholders I meet. I also have a very personal interest in the success of George Fox, as I have a son now attending. Our family is very committed to this place.
