Our Story
It all started on a November day in 1894, when a team of then-Pacific College players took a steamboat to Salem to play Willamette in the first intercollegiate football game in school history. More than 100 years later, George Fox is bringing the sport back after a more than 40-year hiatus.

Fall 2013
George Fox football kicks off
Game on! George Fox will open the season with preseason games before hosting Willamette on Saturday, Oct. 5, for its conference opener.
Spring/Summer 2013
Time to move in
While the regular season may still be months away, training and preparation begin in earnest during the spring and summer months.
Spring 2013
Stadium/Athletic Center are completed
Thanks to the generous support of numerous donors, George Fox’s Stoffer Family Stadium and the Athletic Center are completed and ready for action in the fall.
Fall 2012
First recruiting class enters
This school year will be the first for a group of about 50 redshirt freshmen who will be eligible to play the following fall.
Winter/Spring 2011-12
Head coach hired
After an extensive national search, the university will select the individual who will guide the Bruins as they embark on a new era of football at George Fox.
Spring 2010
Board approves return of football
The university’s board of trustees make it official on March 13: Football will be reinstated and be played at George Fox for the first time since the 1969 season.
Fall 1968
End of an era
The last year football is played at George Fox. The team has no wins, but four players make the NAIA all-conference team: Bob Hadlock, Larry Craven, Herald Fodge and Byron Debban. Hadlock is later drafted by the Detroit Lions.
1950
"Spud" runs wild
Fullback Harold “Spud” Ankeny scores 56 points and rushes for 712 yards on 122 carries.
1948
Bales returns to coach
Alumnus George Bales returns to coach the college’s football team for six years of success.
1945
Football returns from break
Football resumes after taking a break for World War II in 1943-44. Only two games are played; both are losses.
1931
Football reinstated
Soccer is discontinued and football is reinstated, with coach Hubert Armstrong at the helm. Football was shelved in 1926 and soccer was started up the following year.
1922
Back to the gridiron
Football, suspended during World War I, is revived by a unanimous vote of the athletic association.
