A 'Tour' of the Duke Athletic Center

Last May, on an unseasonably hot spring day, a group of us got together to break ground on what would become Stoffer Family Stadium. I have fond memories of that afternoon, as donors, faculty, students and staff gathered around to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in George Fox University athletics.

Since then, we've made tremendous strides in the project's construction, thanks in large part to your generosity. In this issue of Kickoff, I wanted to give you a glimpse of the progress we've made on the Duke Athletic Center (the grandstands are essentially completed). Below are some photos taken last week of the facility. As you can see, things are taking shape!

A view of the field from the Duke Athletic Center's terrace.
A look at the future home of the fitness center.
A look inside the locker room.
The showers
The door out of which our players will run to take the field.
A view of the facility from the outside.

A Look at Our Legacy Lockers

One of the ways you can practically assist our football program is to purchase a Legacy Locker, which allows you to choose an inspirational quote to be placed on one of our lockers (learn more here).

We've hosted this program for some time, but I thought I'd give you a glimpse of what one of these lockers look like (right). As you can see, these aren't the traditional bright orange or yellow metal cages we grew up with in gym class during the 1960s and 1970s. They are constructed of wood and are classy looking. In addition to what you see pictured here, we'll add some finishing touches, such as a Bruin logo or a "Game Time G" on the personal lock box. Many thanks to Bob Dexter in our plant services department for his work in constructing these! We will have more than 100 of them mounted in our home locker room, so opportunities abound for those who wish to sponsor the team in this way.

Construction Update

Here is the latest Andersen Construction report on the Stoffer Family Stadium project: Asphalt is being laid at the Fulton Street entrance to the parking lot. Concrete work around the grandstands has been slightly delayed by the cold weather, but is resuming. Elevator installation, wiring and interior painting continue in the Duke Athletic Center. Tile installation is ongoing in the locker room and restrooms, and exterior siding continues. We're also doing landscape grading and soil removal at various places on site.
