1996 – Multicultural Student Programs was created to assist in the retention of students color.
1999– Under the leadership of Daryl Dixon and Peggy Kilburg, diversity training became mandatory for faculty and staff.
1999 – Under the leadership of Dr. Andrea Cook, a university committee was convened to discuss issues around making George Fox University a more ethnically and racially diverse community.
2003 –Under the leadership of Dr. Brad Lau, VP for Student Life the Blueprint for Diversity was updated and adopted by the board of trustees.
2004 – In the fall of 2004, discussion began with the Northwest Leadership Foundation in a partnership that would bring the Act Six program to George Fox University.
2005 – In the fall of 2005, the Act Six program was approved by the Board of Trustees and the cabinet.
2006 – In the summer of 2006, the Director of the Act Six program began to work with the university in preparation for the arrival of the Act Six students.
2007 – In the fall of 2007, the first Cadre of Act Six students matriculated.
2007 – Under the leadership of Dr. Joel Perez, dean of transitions and inclusion, a partnership was initiated with the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Portland Oregon to provide matching scholarships as part of their scholarship program.
2008 – Under the leadership of Dr. Joel Perez, dean of transitions and inclusion, a partnership was initiated with the Black United Fund of Oregon to provide scholarships for Black students in Oregon.
2008 – In the spring of 2008, the position of Dean of Transitions and Inclusion was created to assist the university in creating and managing change in the area of diversity.
2008 – In the fall after the President Obama Incident, under the leadership of Dr. Robin Baker, a diversity task force was created which consisted of alumni of color and external constituents to help the institution think through diversity initiatives and to provide advice.
2008 – In the fall the Intercultural Concerns Committee (faculty) and the Blueprint for Diversity group (faculty and staff) was combined to form the Institutional Diversity Committee. The committee decided to use Daryl Smith's (1995) dimensions of diversity as the framework that will guide diversity conversations.
2009 – In the spring, the Board of Trustees officially approved the institution’s core values statement which included the following value: “Reflecting the Diversity of God’s People: All people are created in God’s image. Therefore, George Fox University represents the ethnic, socio-economic, cultural, and gender diversity of the broader Kingdom of God. We provide opportunities for students to dialogue about issues of diversity and to live and study in diverse communities.”
2009 – As part of the annual faculty retreat that takes place during the fall, Dr. Terry McGonigal and Dr. Gordon Watanabe were invited to speak on the theology of diversity and conduct a workshop on becoming an intercultural campus. As part of the retreat faculty took the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), with follow-up to take place in the spring of 2010.
2009 – The Dean of Transitions and Inclusion was added to the President’s Executive Leadership Team.
2009 – Under the leadership of Dr. Joel Perez, dean of transitions and inclusion, a partnership was initiated with the South Central Scholars Fund in Los Angeles to provide scholarship to students in the Los Angeles area.
2010 – Over 90% of staff and administration took the IDI and participated in an intercultural development workshop facilitated by Dr. Gordon Watanabe.
2010 – The board of trustees approved the Blueprint for Diversity 2010 – 2015 at their spring meeting. This plan will act as the strategic plan for diversity over the next five years for which the areas of focus will be race/ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, and disability.
