EdD Admissions Requirements

Admission Requirements

  • Evidence of an approved, regionally accredited master’s degree in education or related field, with a GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Evidence of at least three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Official scores on the GRE or MAT exams (see #11 for details).
  • A completed admission file as outlined below.

The following items need to be submitted before your file will be considered for admission:

  1. Download application or apply online (use Educational Foundations and Leadership application)
  2. $40 non refundable application fee.
  3. Character Questionnaire form.
  4. Ethical Educator form.
  5. Personal Essay - 2 to 3 pages in length  (see Admissions Essay Guidelines.)
  6. Current professional résumé.
  7. Three professional references comprised of both a letter and the Graduate Program Recommendation Form. The written letter should address your fit for the program. One reference should be from your current supervisor.
  8. Copy of your current teaching or administrative license (both if applicable). Applicants desiring the EdD degree who do not have a teaching license should submit a letter of explanation as to how the EdD fits with their professional goals.
  9. One official transcript for every institution from which you were awarded a degree and any institutions from which you received graduate-level credit. An official transcript must be received in a signed sealed envelope from the originating institution.
  10. Evidence of scholarly work (copy of a master’s thesis). If you didn’t write a thesis or research paper for your master’s program, please contact the admission counselor for other options.
  11. Score report from either the General Test of Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Tests should be less than seven years old and sent to GFU (code# R-4325). Target score for the GRE: 500 or above on any two of the subsections. Target score for the MAT: 60 percent level or above.
  12. Interview: Your application file will be reviewed after completion by our faculty admissions committee. If it is determined you are a likely candidate for admission, you will be invited to a group assessment and interview. Decisions on admission will be made following the interview.
