ELI Levels

Intermediate Level

In the intermediate level, the courses are divided this way for the semester:

Reading 4 hours
Writing and Grammar 4 hours
Speech, Listening, & Note-taking 4 hours
ESL Freshman Experience 2 hours
Introduction to Christianity 2 hours
Conversation Tutorial 1 hour
Total: 17 hours
(plus one 1-credit elective course if desired)

Advanced Level

In the advanced level, students will take these courses during the semester:

Reading 3 hours
Writing and Grammar 5 hours
Speech 3 hours
Listening and Note-taking 3 hours
First Year Seminar* 1 hour
Content Course* 3 hours
Total:  18 hours 
(no elective courses allowed)

High Advanced Level

In the high advanced level, students will take these courses during the semester:

Reading 3 hours
Writing and Grammar 5 hours
Speech, Listening, and Note-taking 3 hours
First Year Seminar* 1 hour
Introduction to Biblical Knowledge 3 hours<
Content Course* 3 hours
Total: 18 hours 
(no elective courses allowed)

*Courses are with American students.  Content courses are usually courses such as history, intercultural communication, political science, etc.

In addition to ELI courses, students may enroll in a physical education or music course for credit. While enrolled in the ELI, students may take a maximum of 4 hours of non-ESL classes each semester, subject to the approval of their advisor.
