Counselors rank George Fox education as one of America's best

A U.S. News & World Report academic reputation survey of high school counselors ranks George Fox University among the top 100 national universities

High school counselors who advise their students on college choices say George Fox offers one of the best educations in the nation. Based on a national survey conducted by U.S. News & World Report, George Fox is ranked 73rd in the country, highest among the members and affiliates of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities included in the national university category.

U.S. News asked high school counselors which colleges and universities they felt offered the best education to their students, taking into account the insights they use to direct students to particular colleges in addition to their knowledge about these schools in general. The magazine also asked them to consider what they know about each college’s academic record, curriculum, faculty, programs, and graduates. The counselors rated the quality of a school’s undergraduate academic programs on a scale from 1 (marginal) to 5 (distinguished). Those who didn’t know enough about a school to evaluate it fairly were asked to mark "don’t know." Scores for each school were totaled and divided by the number of counselors who rated that school, and then they were ranked in descending order based on the average high school counselor reputation score. Schools receiving the same rank and average reputation score are tied.

The survey was sent to counselors at 1,600 public high schools that made the magazine’s "America’s Best High Schools" rankings. Full survey results and methodology are available on the premium online edition of the U.S. News & World Report 2010 edition of "Best American Colleges."
