Employment in the United States
Since F-1 students are expected to show proof of sufficient financial resources for admission and are rarely eligible to work off campus, working should not be the primary focus of F-1 students. F-1 visa students should not work off campus unless specifically authorized under immigration regulations. To do so may result in immediate deportation.
The Green Card, the identification card that allows resident aliens to work, is issued by USCIS only to immigrants. It is not available to F-1 students.
During the first academic year (eight months) at George Fox University, an F-1 student is not eligible to apply to USCIS for authorization to work off campus. However, F-1 students may work on campus. We recommend students NOT work their first semester due to the many adjustments students are making.
