Veritas in Santo Domingo

Program Overview
This program is offered in colloboration with Veritas Christian Study Abroad at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Home to more than 9.6 million people, the DomiSanto Domingonican Republic is considered one of the poorest countries in the West. Most of the country is green, and filled with palm trees, tropical plants and flowers. In addition to the gorgeous coastlines, there are also mountainous areas where you can go rafting, horseback riding or swim in the waterfalls.

Course Content
Students are required to take a Religion and Culture course and an International Missions/Service-learning practicum taught by local Veritas staff.  The remainder of the courses will be taken at PUCMM.  For a sample list of courses go to courses.  All cousrses are taught in Spanish.

Application

The student will fill out two applications:
• George Fox off-campus application form (obtained from the Center for Study Abroad; or downloaded here)
• Veritas Christian Study Abroad application (to be completed online here). An application fee must accompany your application.

* The Veritas Christian Study Abroad application should only be completed after being informed from the Director of Study Abroad that you are accepted for an off-campus study semester.

Eligibility
Students must be full-time undergraduates with junior or senior status, holding a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply. A minimum of intermediate Spanish is required for this program.

Credits
Because students remain enrolled at George Fox University while participating with Veritas, academic credit is awarded by George Fox. Students will typically take 16 credit hours. Students will be required to attend two pre-departure meetings, complete an online course evaluation, and attend a re-entry meeting upon their return. Students must see the transfer credit specialist in the Registrars office BEFORE they begin their semester off-campus.

Housing
Students will live in homestays with Dominican families.

Costs
The student pays George Fox's standard tuition, room and board, and student fees (an additional fee is required to attend some programs).  Participants continue to receive financial aid, including scholarships, since they are officially George Fox students.  Round trip airfare is additional.
