South Africa - Veritas

Veritas in Cape Town

Program Overview
This program is offered in colloboration with Veritas Christian Study Abroad at the University of Cape Town. Established in 1829 as a school for boys, the University of Cape Town (UCT) is South Africa's oldest university and one of the continent's leading teaching and research institutions. Affectionately known as the Mother City, Cape Town was founded in 1652—South Africa's oldest city. Cape Town is rated as one of the most beautiful cities in the world with a backdrop of flat-topped Table Mountain juxtaposed by the sweep of the Atlantic Ocean in the foreground.

Cape Town

Students are required to take a Cross-Cultural Leadership course and an International Missions/Service-learning practicum taught by local Veritas staff. The remainder of the courses will be taken at the University of Cape Town (UCT)

Students have the opportunity to travel on several excursions including the Aquila Game Reserve, Robben Island Tour, Cape Peninsula, and Hermanus.

The student will fill out two applications:
• George Fox off-campus application form
• Veritas Christian Study Abroad application* (An application fee must accompany your application)
* The Veritas Christian Study Abroad application should only be completed after being informed from the George Fox Director of Study Abroad that you are accepted for an off-campus study semester.

Students must be full-time undergraduates with junior or senior status, holding a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply. There is NO language requirement.

Because students remain enrolled at George Fox University while participating with Veritas, academic credit is awarded by George Fox. Students will typically take 16 credit hours. Students will be required to attend two pre-departure meetings, complete an online course evaluation, and attend a re-entry meeting upon their return. Students must see the transfer credit specialist in the Registrars office BEFORE they begin their semester off-campus.

Students live in a self-catering Student Residence, similar to dorm-style living, conveniently located near campus on a university shuttle bus route. Rooms are typically single or double occupancy with shared kitchen, bathroom, and laundry facilities.

The student pays George Fox's standard tuition, room and board, and student fees (an additional fee is required to attend some programs).  Participants continue to receive financial aid, including scholarships, since they are officially George Fox students.  Round trip airfare is additional.
