Uganda Studies Program
In conjunction with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, George Fox students can participate in the Uganda Studies Program (USP). Students will study with African students at Uganda Christian University in Kampala.
The program is comprised of one experiential course designed especially for USP students, Faith and Practice in the Ugandan Context, two or three flexible core classroom courses, and up to two electives chosen from Uganda Christian University's Honours College. Typically, students attend lectures once a week and then meet with their tutors for further discussion.
The student will fill out two applications:
• George Fox off-campus application form (obtained from the Center for Study Abroad; or downloaded here).
• Uganda Studies Program application (to be completed online here).
*The USP application should only be completed after being informed from the Director of Study Abroad that you are accepted for an off-campus study semester.
Students must be full-time undergraduates with junior or senior status, holding a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply. There is NO language requirement.
Because students remain enrolled at George Fox University while participating at the USP, academic credit is awarded by George Fox. Students will typically take 16 credit hours. Students will be required to attend two pre-departure meetings, complete an online course evaluation, and attend a re-entry meeting upon their return. Students must see the transfer credit specialist in the Registrars office BEFORE they begin their semester off-campus.
Students will live at the four small dormitories of the Honours College and share their lives with about 40 of the university's scholarship students. Each dorm room will house two students in clean but modest accommodations, with common bathroom and shower facilities.
The student pays George Fox's standard tuition, room and board, and student fees (an additional fee is required to attend some programs). Participants continue to receive financial aid, including scholarships, since they are officially George Fox students. Round trip airfare is additional.
