Program Overview
George Fox and Mission Year have partnered together to offer GF students an exciting opportunity to love God and love people in the urban context while also earning academic credit: George Fox + Mission Year Semester in the City in Portland!

GF + MY Semester in the City
The George Fox + Mission Year Semester in the City is a dynamic opportunity for you to live a holistic life of faith, study, and service. You will live in a community house in a neighborhood in Portland looking for creative ways to live out your faith, build authentic community, and pursue justice. Students will take classes while also living in community and devoting time to serve a neighborhood in Portland.

Courses

  • Urban Issues (3 CR)
  • Theology of Poverty (3 CR)
  • Justice Matters: Action and Reflection in an Urban Context (3 CR)
  • Urban Field Experience/Internship (6 CR)

Application
The student will fill out two applications:
George Fox off-campus application
Mission Year application
*The MIssion Year application should only be completed after being informed from the Director of Study Abroad that you are accepted for an off-campus study semester.

Eligibility
Any student that has a heart for loving God and loving people in the urban context. Especially those who are interested in radical discipleship, living in community, seeking justice, and serving an urban neighborhood.

Housing
Students will live in a community house set up by Mission Year.

Costs
The student pays George Fox's standard tuition and room and board, student fees (an additional fee is required to attend some programs).  Participants continue to receive financial aid, including scholarships, since they are officially George Fox students.  Round trip airfare is additional.
