DESCRIPTIONGreece
We will make trips to Epidavros, where the best-preserved theater of the ancient world rests, and Mycenae, a legendary mountaintop palace, with a massive beehive tomb and mythic links to the Trojan War.

Then, we will visit the island of Hydra with picturesque harbors, coastal hikes and casual beaches.  We will explore Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, with temple ruins, an ancient stadium, and intimate museum of ancient masterpieces.  We will spend the next day exploring the ancient city and then drive to Delphi.   We will explore the mountainside draped with the Sanctuary of Apollo where ancients came to consult the oracle.

We will then make a drive through the mountains to Meteora, a formation of monolithic pillars of rock.  On top of these immense boulders sit complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos.  Next we will hike around Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece, notable in Greek mythology as home of the gods.

We will then drive back to Athens to spend a few days taking in the sites of the capital.  Most notable, is the ancient site of the Acropolis, which features several ancient buildings of architectural and historical significance, including the famous Parthenon.  There we will also partake in world-class museums viewing some of the most famous artworks of antiquity.  Throughout our time, we will take in the leisurely lifestyle of the people of Greece and enjoy several eateries to experience the culture.

From Athens, we will take a day trip to Corinth to see where the Apostle Paul lived and worked for several years of his missionary journey.  Another excursion from Athens will be Sounion, where we get a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea at the Temple of Poseidon.  The following day we will make a short flight to the romantic island of Santorini, built on the remains of a volcano crater.  Santorini is renowned for its white Cliffside villages punctuated by blue rooftops, volcanic black-sand beaches, and amazing sunsets.  There we will visit Akrotiri, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement preserved when buried in volcanic ash.  Here we will also have a leisure day to enjoy the beach and swim in the Aegean Sea.

We finish our trip back at Athens for a free day to explore the markets and city life before getting ready for the trip back home.
