ASC CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETING

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

EMERGENCY MEETING

21.1 PRAYER: Everyone

21.2 Committee Updates

21.3 CALL TO ORDER: 8:07pm

21.4 ROLL CALL: All are present except W. Jones.

NEW BUSINESS

21.5 Appeal Paper: Communication Application – Emilee Kamps & Wesley Jones

Proposal: We, Wesley Jones and Emilee Kamps, are challenging the recent decision of the Central Committee to deny candidacy on the basis that the decision was made in disregard of proper adherence to the ASC Constitution.

Discussion:

-       Outcomes

  • Apologize for the way they went about the vote on Monday because it was incorrect.
  • The GPA requirement is a gray area. They also still have to be elected by their peers.

-       Decisions

  • They submitted more details than they had with their original proposals.
  • ASC Advisor clear recommendation is based on reviewing transcripts and GPAs.
    • ASC Advisor – Emilee really wants to run and Emilee is doing better this semester and would bring her closer to the GPA minimum. Therefore, Advisor would suggest granting her appeal as well.
    • ASC Advisor – there is nothing Wesley can do to get to a 3.0 unless he retakes courses. Advisor recommends grant his appeal because of that.
  • A small detail to bring up is Wesley did not write his original application with accurate GPA and did not turn in his GPA grace proposal on time.
  • Want the best of the students to run and feels it could includes grades; however, when looking at the entire person academics is only one part, there are also spiritual factors and other factors to consider.
  • But we are deciding if they meet the requirements, then the student body determines if their character is what they want for a member.
    • However, in this case it implies that the President/VP would be running unopposed.
    • Yet, this problem deals with the GPA and more so eligibility.
  • The GPA requirement being said up by the previous advisor not the constitution it should be viewed on a case-by-case basis. Then the current Advisor should give their suggestions like he has.
  • But GPA says something about work ethic, but in the past those in leadership positions tend to have a GPA that drops.
  • But if the trends continue it could put them in a bad place academically and it could cause for some reevaluation next year.
  • Hard to make a decision about a person on a number such as the GPA.

-       Actions

Call to Question: B. Kasler

Seconded: J. Riedel

Motion Ties: 2-2-0

Let the record show that they are allowed to run based on the J. Perez’s recommendations.

21.6 MEETING ADJOURNED: 8:51pm

The Campus Representatives met directly following the conclusion of the CC’s emergency meeting and found the first decision unconstitutional because of Article III, Section 2, Part C. There was no 3/4ths vote and that therefore means it does not pass. Even if the one running the meeting (J. Stanton) voted it would have not met a 3/4ths vote in either direction.

21.7 CALL TO RE-ORDER: 9:35pm

21.8 ROLL CALL: All are present including a campus representative and excluding Wesley Jones.

21.9 Appeal Paper: Communication Application – Emilee Kamps  & Wesley Jones

Proposal: We, Wesley Jones and Emilee Kamps, are challenging the recent decision of the Central Committee to deny candidacy on the basis that the decision was made in disregard of proper adherence to the ASC Constitution.
