ASC CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETING

Monday, January 21, 2014

23.1 CALL TO ORDER 3:11 PM

23.2 ROLL CALL: All are present including S. St. Cyr, except D. Shin

23.3 COMMITTEE UPDATES

NEW BUSINESS

23.4 Clubs: New Club Proposal: M. Nakashimada

Proposal: Approve the constitution and budget to approve Students For Life club

Discussion:

-Outcomes

  • Think about a pro-choice group that could potentially arise
  • Advocacy groups shouldn’t be considered clubs; but that isn’t a rule
  • This has already been approved by Student Life

-Decisions

  • We need to line up University standards and 2013-2014 Club Manual
  • Where do we need to decide the line of advocacy?
  • Can’t find reasons to turn it down based on the 2013-2014 Club Manual
  • This is a platform that could potentially get really messy with the way we handle bigger issues in the future
  • It says in the University Policy that abortion is against the rules
  • The issue of abortion is an extremely touchy issue
  • Would we be okay putting our stamp on a graphic pro-life poster?
  • It would be healthy to have clubs that prove both sides of the issue
  • Will a pro-choice club be next?
  • It’s hard to have one side because Jesus is the only way
  • -Actions
  • We need to continue this conversation because no one has settled on a decision
  • Pray
