24.4 Special Projects Fund: Proposal: C. Magee

Proposal: $14, 350 to covert one racquetball court into a rock-climbing wall

Discussion:

-       Outcomes

  • Skeleton plan with cost of materials
  • Convert the racquetball court into a rock wall
  • Finding leadership in this group of climbers
  • Beginning of this plan; still needs to go through athletic department and university
  • Don’t want to hire contractor; way too expensive
  • Storage closet is awful

-       Decisions

  • Rock climbing should become a club
  • This club could run the rock wall and receive ASC funding

-       Actions

  • Apply for club
  • Get contractor to talk about the logistics of creating a wall

Proposal: Make Coast to Coast Swing an official club

Discussion:

-       Outcomes

  • Great proposal
  • Great club and mission

-       Decisions

  • They can use Bruin Grounds as their main space
  • Dance policy; there can’t be any dances at people’s houses without an advisor; club will be OK with this policy

-       Actions

  • Let them know about Bruin Grounds

Proposal: Film Festive Committee to become a new club

Discussion:

            -Outcomes

  • They don’t really have officers
  • Proposal seems like asking for funding instead of becoming a club

            -Decisions

  • This isn’t a club
  • They’re trying to get funding and organization for the Film Festival
  • Not very inclusive
  • Need a broader purpose; but also good they have a main focus
  • Too involved with the CMCO majors; more of an academic event

            -Actions

  • They can reapply as a club about cinema instead of solely focused on the Film Festival

Proposal: Students for Life club to become a new club

Discussion:

            -Outcomes

  • Proposal looks good
  • Aligns with University standards

            -Decisions

  • Life is precious, but students don’t want to see and hear about pro-life all the time
  • We don’t want students who have dealt with abortion to be offended by any of the advocacy campaigns
  • We need to ask if this will uplift our community at Fox
    • We don’t have good feelings about this being uplifting
    • Maybe this needs to go through SPIL in order to better, more lovingly, approach students

            -Actions

  • We are thinking about the community of our student body while also recognizing they fit the club policy

Proposal: $350 to head of project to complete student story videos

Discussion:

            -Outcomes

  • We need to decide where this money will come from

            -Decisions

  • Price is a little steep considering marketing director is only $125
  • Where will we be publishing these videos?

            -Actions

  • This stipend is fine because it will give incentive for quality videos
  • Stipend money will come from Special Projects Fund

Proposal:  $560 for Hobson 3 to play two games of Laser Tag in Beaverton

  • Doubt for the event being the entirety of $560

  • Roomies event; serves wide range of people

  • Need to change date of event so it’s not during Sadie Hawkins

  • Good proposal
  • Valuable learning opportunity

Proposal: $3196 for 6 students to attend National Student Leadership Conference at Taylor University in Upland Indiana

Discussion:

  • Have talked thoroughly with this group
  • Taking 6 RA’s that are all upperclassmen

-Decisions

  • Should be underclassmen instead of upperclassmen to greater affect GFU
  • Students should have to pay/raise funds for some of the costs of the airfare tickets

-Actions

  • Full price should not be given
  • Amend to $250/ person totaling
