2.3 PRAYER: K. Webster

NEW BUSINESS

2.4 Discussion: New Cafeteria: B. Lau

Discussion:

-               Outcomes

  • Current building doesn’t even have foundation right now, everything is in very early stages
  • This will affect almost every student, every type of student
  • Fireplace would be in the main lounge area, any student could visit
  • Very basic proposal, all the details will be sorted out future, but cost is maximal
  • Gas for the building has already been sized
  • Need an answer by 21 of September, university will not be able to pay for this project
  •

-               Decisions

  • Talk to someone from MarComm about advertising and presenting this, to have students vote on it
    • We need to be very careful how we present this because ASC’s reputation is not in the best light because of the bronze bear in 2014
  • Student vote, video, slideshow presentation
  • There’s plenty of money in the reserve for the student center, even if we spend money on the fire place
  • Money would come out of reserve fund, not student project fund

Enter C. Gray & E. Lopez

2.5 Club: Money Advancement: Z. Larsen

Proposal: Disc Golf club needing money advancement of $480 to run a fundraiser selling discs

Discussion:

-               Outcomes

  • Because of the hope to increase the club budget, we are waiting to hear the census, but there are four clubs that need money now because they are doing events
  • Selling discs $12-$15/ disc, need $80 for one time design cost. Total cost would be $480 but we would earn money for the club.
    • The owner of the store who makes the discs said he would sell them at his store
  • All the money earned would be part of the club
    • So they would be self sufficient
    • The goal is to have the fundraised money- from other events not just from selling discs- be the money that helps them go to nationals
  • What other club would we help fundraise by buying things?
    • This fundraiser seems to be high risk, low profit
      • Disc golf club goes to monthly tournaments, where they can sell all of their discs
      • Hard to be objective when the person proposing is on ASC, what if a student not part of ASC asked this?
      • We give every club the opportunity to fundraise
  • Confident, and seen other schools sells discs, be extremely successful in this type of fundraising

Exit Z. Larsen

  • How do we move forward with these sort of fundraising issues? Clubs will move forward and want to do this
  • Can we keep track of how many discs were sold?
    • No one would be able to keep track of the specific discs
      • Club end of year report
  • Disc Golf Club doesn’t have a department to help them
    • Well they have athletics and intramurals
  • No other club is getting this high of a budget
  • Didn’t change the club budget, just changed the allocations so they can fundraise better
  • Do we give clubs room to fundraise?
    • Yes, they should be more sustainable
    • Should we give them grants to do fundraising or expect them to do it themselves?
  • Don’t like the idea of giving two whole student fees, for a profit of maybe $275.
    • Cautioning a conflict of interest

-               Decisions

  • We just need to keep eyes on what money was raised, and how they’re spending their money

-               Actions

Proposal: $160 for rock climbing club to buy new rope

Discussion:

            -Outcomes

  • Why does this need to be advanced now? They can’t wait for 3 weeks?
    • The ropes are still safe, but need to be replaced soon
    • In their original proposal, they asked for $700 worth of climbing rope

            -Decisions

  •

            -Actions

  • Can we meet with Athletics about these clubs and seeing if they can help with funding?
    • Rock climbing shouldn’t be paid by ASC if it’s a class
      • Where are class fees going for that class?
