2.5 Clubs : Money Advance: E. Lopez

Proposal: $70 for a BBQ Psychology club- club budgets have not been approved yet because we do not have census numbers

Discussion:

-          Outcomes

-          Decisions

  • Are we okay funding department clubs?
    • Yes, but it needs to be a future conversation because they need to have full support from them for their clubs
    • Same with athletics, we will be asking them to help fund Disc Golf and other athletic clubs
      • E. Lopez has already talked to departments, and they don’t have any room in their budgets
      • We also need to talk to Linda Samek, provost, to figure out the ground of how the departments can move forward in supporting clubs

-          Actions

  • We need to figure out a way to deal with departments and their clubs, the way funding goes.
  • Meeting with Linda to figure out departments and their budgets, their vision and how to get faculty & financial ties with clubs

Call to Question: D. Bogert

Seconded: L. Pekkola

Motion Passes: 7-0-0

3.6 Clubs: Money Advance:  E. Lopez

Proposal: $100 for Nursing club BBQ

Discussion:

            -Outcomes

  • We need to figure out condiments, because there’s always left over
  • Expecting 70 people

            -Decisions

  • $10 is a lot for baked beans
  • The list is itemized, and we cannot fund anything they didn’t propose for

            -Actions

Call to Question: L. Pekkola

Seconded: E. Lopez

Motion Passes: 7-0-0

3.7 Commuter Life: Proposal: M. Peterson

Proposal: $2565 for plants in the FoxHole

Discussion:

            -Outcomes

  • Moving more money into the Commuter Life budget
  • We need to figure out where the remodel money came from- the FoxHole

            -Decisions

  • Did not know it was going to cost that much…
  • We need to communicate better with this garden artist
    • Could be an internship experience for a student that would lower the cost, but that is not a firm set option so it’s too risky
    • Could we sell Lehman to get the money for this? (laughter)
    • If we turned down this idea it would send a very clear idea to the artist

            -Actions

  • We are not ready to spend this much money on plants
  • We can table it, or deny it at all

Call to Question: L. Pekkola

Seconded: M. Peterson

Motion Fails: 1-0-6

3.8 Student Project Fund: Proposal: K. Webster

Proposal: Ping Pong tables for every dorm, approved last year from the Student Project Fund

Discussion:

            -Outcomes

  • Would only be in 3 dorms maybe 4 Pennington, HMS, Coffin & maybe Edwards
    • Not enough room in Brandt to put a table
    • Would come out to about $1200-1600
      • Would come out of SPF unless that budget gets filled up, then we will dip into reserve. Even though this proposal happened last year
      • Minutes from last year didn’t get transferred over,

-Decisions

  • Consider Ping Pong tables that don’t fold because that’s what tends to break
    • The issue is that dorms have been buying cheaper tables, so they break easier
    • Res Life CLF could be used to fix any repairs needed
      • For the future
      • We could give them a ping pong budget and allow each res hall to determine which table to buy

-Actions

  • Up to $400 for each dorm that needs it, possible $1600
  • Res Life can buy the best tables, that will last a while

Call to Question: M. Peterson

Seconded: Z. Larsen

Motion Passes: 7-0-0

3.9 DISCUSSION

  • CLF Transfer
    • We need to improve communication between Res Life & ASC
    • The guidelines have been written out and said
    • We have AC’s overseeing the budgets, it should be managed properly
    • We can’t get rigid about money and where it’s coming from, if an RA needs extra money and applies for the normal CLF, we can’t deny it immediately
    • If budgets get spent, we can reevaluate what they need
    • Constitution
      • We will present this at the Town Hall meeting
      • The current constitution doesn’t say we need to do an all campus vote to prove it
      • But it would be so good to have students read through and approve the constitution so it sees them as theirs
        • Voting will still happen, but it will still get approved
        • Tech director stipends
          • We will need to change name and stipend amount, proposal will follow soon
          • Bob Goff
            • Open Arms International
            • Love Does
            • $10,000- we can’t pay that whole sum
            • Get the community involved, many churches to advertise- huge community outreach
            • Service oriented
            • Valentines day, focused on love and service
            • If they raised $5000, ASC could match it.
              • Don’t know where the money would come from
            • Tickets could be sold and the money could go toward O.A.I.
            • Would churches be okay with being charged to be there, and then buying to the tickets to the event?
            • The issue would be booking Bob Goff, and raising money in time
            • SPIL has not weighed in on this
            • He’s coming to Corbin afterwards, don’t know why it’s so expensive
              • We can negotiate
              • We could partner with Corbin?
            • Not an ASC event, an event that ASC helped with
            • Oh Hellos
              • Closed concert, no college students from other colleges
